What is HDS?

The HDS certification (“Hébergeur de Données de Santé” in French) is a certification developed by the French Ministry of Health.

This certification is mandatory for any company that hosts health data on behalf of healthcare professionals or institutions in France.

The HDS certification ensures that the host has implemented all necessary security measures to protect the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of health data. It covers various aspects such as physical and logical security, data backup, traceability, and business continuity.

Who needs to be HDS certified?

It is mandatory for all entities that deal with health data of French citizen, including clinics, insurers, pharmacies, mutuals, software editors and hosting companies. These organizations must guarantee patient privacy and medical confidentiality by being audited and certified by an independent third-party auditor on the scope of their activities related to health data hosting.
